Chesterfield Farrier Service is proud to offer free information clinics and seminars for your horse club or association. With medical specimens, up to date information, and written materials our knowledgeable farriers can give your group a quality learning experience.

We have helped many horse owners learn more about their horses' hooves and way of going in one hour than many of them have learned in years of owning horses. It's amazing the amount of information that may be missing from your equine repertoire. We are so very interested in sharing the information we have with as many horse owners as we can because the more we all know about horse shoeing the better off our horses will be.

Our experience in giving information clinics and seminars is extensive: we have worked at the Lansing and Novi expos for several years and talked to many 4-H groups and horse and color associations. We have been invited to give classes for the animal science majors and pre-vet students at Michigan State University. Also, we regularly set up information tables at several of the summer horse shows in Southeastern Michigan, including Dressage Shows, Hunter/Jumper shows, and School Series Shows.

Please consider us when making plans for your meeting agendas. For more information, please contact us .

Apprenticeship Program

In an effort to further the farrier trade and help to upgrade the quality of farriers just starting out, Chesterfield Farrier Service has a learn while you earn program that helps new farriers attain the American Farrier Association's Certified Farrier certification level.

Apprenticeships are flexible but usually run between one and two years in length. Apprentices gain experience in real world working conditions under the supervision of Certified Farriers. They also receive instruction in basic forging skills and book instruction in anatomy, physiology, locomotion, and mechanics of farrier science. All practical and written instruction is geared towards passing the AFA certification test.

While doing all of this, the apprentice is paid a salary along with workers compensation insurance and free rooming at our Chesterfield office.

We have helped many farriers get a good, sound, start in the industry and we look forward to helping many more get started. The industry needs good farriers. If you are thinking of becoming a Certified Farrier then drop us a line so we can talk.
